Merida has become one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in Mexico, and the city earns it. Restored haciendas on the outskirts of the city, intimate ceremonies in the cobblestone streets of the historic center, candlelit receptions in private colonial mansions along Paseo de Montejo. Every venue here carries centuries of character into the frame.
I shoot weddings and elopements in Merida knowing the city well. The brutal midday light and the extraordinary late afternoon that follows. The way the jacaranda trees on Paseo de Montejo look in the early morning. The stillness of a hacienda courtyard at dusk before the reception begins. I don't direct. I observe, anticipate, and disappear into the background until the light and the emotion align. Then I'm exactly where I need to be.
Merida light is intense and specific. The Yucatan sun is relentless at midday. But the hour before sunset turns the limestone and stucco of the old city into something extraordinary. The trick is knowing exactly when that window opens and being positioned before it does. I plan every timeline here around that knowledge.
